The story of National Museum of Montenegro

The largest museum in Montenegro was founded in 1896, here in Cetinje. The National Museum of Montenegro is not one building but five departments: the Historical Museum, the Ethnographic Museum and the Art Museum of Montenegro, King Nikola's Palace, and Biljarda, the museum of Petar II Petrović Njegoš. Among its treasures is the Oktoih Prvoglasnik, a significant printed book from the late 15th century.
The museum also holds the original icon of Our Lady of Philermos, which had been in the possession of the Order of St. John since the Crusades. Not every chapter of its story is a happy one, though. More precise records have been kept only since 1976, and around 3000 objects owned by the museum cannot be located.
They are presumed to have been stolen over the years.
